Ethereum Push Notification Services (EPNS) announced its plans to launch a pilot program with Uniswap this week. The pilot program would develop a core EPNS protocol for liquidity providers (LPs) on Uniswap’s platform. Uniswap users will soon be able to get automated notifications sent to eligible wallets based on their customized needs and interests.

As cryptocurrency enters the mainstream, there is a clear push for more on-chain communication and interaction. Many decentralized apps (dapps) are operating at unprecedented levels, and with great size comes great responsibility. To stay competitive, dapps need to streamline processes and improve reliability. Adding on-chain notifications will help popular DeFI platforms like Uniswap maintain a direct relationship with users and compete with centralized platforms like Coinbase.

Uniswap is one of the largest crypto exchange platforms in the Web3 space. By partnering with EPNS, the coin swapper can build reliability and ensure speedy communication for their user base. In other words, the days of Telegram messages, Discord chats, blog posts and tweets just to stay in touch with LPs may be a thing of the past. The EPNS protocol enables Uniswap to automatically notify eligible wallets through decentralized, native, on-chain messages.

It’s important to note, however, that it will take some time to fully implement that service. For more about EPNS tech, you can view their litepaper here. When the “pilot program” is ready, though, EPNS will build a Uniswap channel that anyone can subscribe to.

Once subscribed, customizable notifications will automatically be sent to your wallet. You can find out when your transaction is approved, receive warnings about gas fees, get notified about impermanent loss, etc. This program will also help EPNS learn new ways about what dapps are looking for in the EPNS protocol.

Why are decentralized notifications important?

As companies continue to update their protocols, decentralized notifications offer a more streamlined approach to communicating with users.

For example, when Uniswap launched V2 of its protocol, there was a massive communications effort needed to migrate LPs to the new version. What took months could have taken weeks. By implementing decentralized push notifications, users are automatically kept up to date. All you need is a list of eligible wallets, and everything else falls into place.

Keep an eye out for the pilot program to go live over the next few weeks!
